Understanding poverty and how each of us can better serve the neediest in our community.

The 2013 Poverty Forum is scheduled to be held at Beulah Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie on Thursday, October 10th at 6:30pm.

Join us for information and discussion about the shocking amount of endemic hunger in Poughkeepsie and other parts of Dutchess County.

The keynote speaker for the evening is Susan Grove of Poughkeepsie Plenty. Panelists include Robert Allers, Commissioner, Dutchess County Department of Community & Family Services; Brian Riddell, Executive Director, Dutchess Outreach; Solange Muller, MPH, Immigrant Health Initiative; Steve Meddaugh, Member of Community Voices Heard. Rev. Jesse Bottoms, Pastor of Beulah Baptist Church will give opening remarks and welcome and Dr. Kennon Moody, Chair of the DCIC CROP Walk for Hunger be speaking briefly about the upcoming CROP Walk on Sunday, October 20th.

Panelist discussion will be followed by and Q&A period, time for light refreshments and then break-out groups will be formed to discuss and provide real answers to the issues of hunger.

To park in the church parking lot turn west at Hamilton St. & Cottage St. stop light, just north of St. Paul’s church.

2010 Poverty Forum

It had been two years since DCIC has hosted a Poverty Forum, this one was hosted by Beulah Baptist Church in Poughkeepsie on Wednesday, April 28th at 6:30pm. The Poverty Forum is an event meant to raise awareness about the need for communities to advocate for the poor. DCIC hosted the discussion featuring the following panelists:

  • Rev. Jesse Bottoms, Pastor, Beulah Baptist Church, Poughkeepsie
  • Mary Marshall, Director, Dutchess County Catholic Charities Community Services
  • Charles North, President & CEO, Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce
  • Brian Riddell, Executive Director, Dutchess Outreach
  • Gail Webster, Executive Director, Hudson River Housing
  • Rev. Richard Witt, Executive Director, Rural & Migrant Ministry

The discussion was moderated by DCIC President, Theresa Giovanniello. A question and answer period followed service of light refreshments. Materials featuring information about a variety of organizations and services were availible free to participants.
