Interfaith Story Circles

Join us at DCIC's Monthly Interfaith Story Circles

Story Circle

The sharing of interfaith stories in the sacred circle began in 2004 with women who told faith stories from their own traditions at the Dutchess County Jail. It features storytellers who tell a prepared story on a chosen theme and then open the floor for those in attendance who are inspired to tell a story from their own tradition on the evening's theme.

The Story Circles are hosted at different houses of worship so that participants can visit and learn about other sanctuaries of faith. Congregants of the hosting house are encouraged to attend and share their experiences. Over these years we have visited the Masjid, the Hindu Samaj, and the Buddhist Monastery in Wappingers Falls, the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship in Poughkeepsie, as well as all of the Jewish Houses of Worship and many Christian churches. Story Circles are free to attend and open to the public. Check our Community Calendar for this season's Story Circle dates, times and locations.

Every year DCIC and the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of Poughkeepsie hold the Peace Concert: An Afternoon of Stories. For over 10 years, the DCIC has sponsored this event which raises money for local causes. Stories are told by professional Story Tellers and are geared toward adults and older children.

Former Executive Director of DCIC, Rev. Gail Burger has given us her reflections on several Story Circles.
